All Pets Veterinary Hospital offers alternative pet medicine

Alternative Medicine

All Pets Veterinary Hospital is the only veterinary hospital in the immediate Rancho Palos Verdes area that practices acupuncture and acupressure - which is the stimulation of specific points on the body. These procedures have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to achieve a healing effect. With acupuncture, the doctor stimulates the problematic area with fine needles. With acupressure, the problematic area is stimulated with touch pressure.

The overall goal of these procedures is to improve your pet's well being, make them feel better and in some instances cure their problem. Chinese medical philosophy believes that disease is a result of the imbalance of energy in the body. Acupuncture is believed to balance this energy and thereby assist the body's own ability to heal itself. There are a wide variety of applications alternative medicine can be used for including:

  • Pain control
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Urinary tract conditions
  • Dermatologic problems
  • Behavioral issues

The success rate for the use of alternative medicine is variable, depending on the type, severity and the length of the presenting problem. For chronic problems, initial treatment is generally 6-8 treatments per week, and if there is positive response, we try to extend the treatments to once monthly or even to triennial treatments. For acute problems, the treatment may be more often, but may not require long-term follow up.

For our clients that are interested, we will use a combination of Western and Eastern medicine. However, acupuncture and herbal remedies can be used alone or in combination with traditional veterinary medicine.

Our veterinarians are licensed and with formal training in veterinary acupuncture, acupressure and herbal medicines. We’d be happy to discuss an alternative medical approach for your pet if you are interested.
